This is not role-play, my mom is just a girl.
And I, Kadzo, I’m just a child with back-breaking responsibilities.
Chores that leave me very little time to play.
I wish this was lego axe cutting lego wood. But it is real.
What is not real is the promise of school being the key to success.
This “success” feels faaaar away, I walk miles to get it.
I want a different life – a better life.
But this is interrupted monthly by a process I cannot control.
Periods are embarrassing. The stains keep me out of school.
On my way home I meet these boys. They are living their dreams.
They have cool bikes, charm & money. They have it easy.
We make a deal…
‘Free’ rides & money to buy sanitary pads.
The deal works for a while…
Until it doesn’t.
All I wanted was to remain in school - to succeed!
But sadly, just like my young mom, I am caught up in this loop!
